MISSION WORK In February 2010 the Fruitland church began a mission work in Sarchi, Costa Rica. How we became involved in this work is a long story of how God opens doors and allows us to go along for the ride. Just to summarize, we hired Roldan Chinchilla, a Costa Rican preacher, to begin a new congregation in Sarchi. He hit the ground running, and has taught and baptized several in the past few months. A glaring need for a meeting place was satisfied when the Fruitland church purchased land and began a new building on that land in the summer of 2010. A group of 16 traveled from Fruitland to help construct the new building. We were joined by a group of nearly 70 young people and adults from the Riverside Church of Christ in Coppell, Texas. Although there is still much to do on the new building, the church is meeting there. We are planning on several going to Sarchi each year to help out with other construction needs and with spiritual needs (VBS, etc.). |
